My name is Jemberu Abebaw, I graduated Bachelor degree from Bule Hora University in social Anthropology and I hold second degree by social Anthropology from Bahir Dar University. Now I am A Lecturer of Social Anthropology at Debre Markos University, bringing five years of professional experience in teaching. My deeply committed to promoting the value of social Anthropology as a tool for understanding cultural diversity, fostering social harmony, and addressing complex societal challenges.
Early Practicalities & Volunteerism activity
I commitment to community development and education began during my time as an undergraduate university student. Demonstrating early leadership, I actively sought out numerous short- and long-term training certificate programs to expand my skill set. During my summer university breaks, returned home to dedicate my time to impactful volunteer activities for junior students and my local community:
Academic Mentorship: I organized volunteer teaching sessions for junior students, preparing them for upcoming coursework and providing valuable overviews of expected academic milestones. In recognition of my dedication, the school awarded me an official certificate of appreciation.
Community Mediation: I served my community as a grassroots mediator. For three consecutive summer seasons, utilized various conflict-resolution mechanisms to successfully negotiate peace and reconcile hostile parties, resolving conflicts between at least two sets of individuals each summer.
My Academic Career & Professional Development
Now serving as staff member at Debre Markos University, college of Social Science and humanity Department of Sociology, social Anthropology lecturer. Teaches undergraduate students and participates in institutional research. To continually enhance my pedagogical and analytical capabilities, I have earned several professional certifications over the years, including:
Higher Education Relevance: Higher Diploma Program (HDP) and English Language Improvement Program (ELIP).
Digital & Modern Pedagogy: E-learning instructional design.
Research Methodology: Advanced statistical data analysis certifications in SPSS and Stata. Socio-Economic Development: Entrepreneurship training and 5 million Ethiopian coder’s course like Ethiopian AI Fundamentals etc.
Research Focus & Future Visions
Primary research and teaching interests encompass gender issue, conflict resolution, social change, cultural studies, indigenous knowledge systems, marriage practices, traditional medicine and also community development. Notably, I have conducted significant research focusing on the socio-economic challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs), analyzing their coping mechanisms and adaptive strategies.
Looking forward, my aims to expand academic footprints by publishing scholarly articles in high-impact journals, advancing my research contributions, and leading sustainable, community-based development initiatives. I firmly believe that the intersection of rigorous academic research and inclusive education is vital for driving sustainable development.
