Historically a language of state administration and scholarship, it has evolved into a modern academic discipline examining classical texts, philology, codicology (the study of physical manuscripts), and paleography (the study of ancient writing). Amid contemporary global challenges of cultural homogenization and the critical risk of losing indigenous wisdom, the demand for professionals skilled in translating, preserving, and analyzing these historical texts remains vital.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following this academic trajectory, the Department of Ge&#8217;ez Language and Literature at Debre Markos University (DMU) was officially launched in the <strong>2021\/22 (2014 E.C.)<\/strong> academic year. As one of the ten core departments within the <strong>College of Social Sciences and Humanities<\/strong>, it works to preserve and pass down Ethiopia&#8217;s ancient civilization, rare wisdom, and history to the next generation. By studying ancient heritages and parchment manuscripts using modern research methods, the department is strongly committed to becoming a premier hub for indigenous knowledge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To achieve this mission, the department offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program across <strong>regular, evening, and weekend streams<\/strong>, and has successfully graduated <strong>three cohorts<\/strong> of students to date.
